About us

Last updated:

The Print Field is an English-language journal exploring letterpress, relief printmaking, typography, and the printed objects through which these practices carry history. Our publication address is https://nexorvia.xyz.

What we cover

Our archive connects five areas: pressroom machinery; type and composition; ink, paper, and registration; woodcut and linocut studios; and print history. Articles begin with a particular press, tool, impression, book, or collection object rather than treating every example as the same story.

We write for readers interested in how a printed mark is made and how to read it: curious beginners, designers, print enthusiasts, and people exploring museum and library collections.

Sources and original analysis

Object records, collection catalogues, digitized publications, and documented process descriptions provide the factual starting points. Sources are linked beside each essay so readers can examine their context. A source link is not a claim that an institution endorses this publication.

The editorial contribution is the explanation connecting those records: comparisons of printing mechanisms, close readings of composition, and distinctions between an object, its reproduction, and its catalogue history. We write these explanations in our own words rather than republishing source articles.

How the writing is prepared

The essays do not claim first-hand workshop testing, interviews, or archival visits. Hypothetical examples and interpretive readings are distinguished from recorded facts.

Source records can disagree or omit information. An uploader credit is not independent authentication, and an unavailable record cannot establish an unverified detail. Where an artist, date, edition, or production history remains uncertain, the writing should state that limit.

Images and attribution

Article covers are local reproductions with source links, creator credits, and stated licence information. See our image credits. Third-party works retain their own rights and licence terms; appearance here does not make every image freely reusable.

Corrections and independence

We welcome corrections supported by an identifiable record. Please send the article URL, the disputed passage, and the source supporting a correction to [email protected]. Substantive revisions should identify what changed; unresolved disagreements should remain visible rather than being replaced with invented certainty.

The journal is not presented as the official publication of any museum, library, manufacturer, or artist discussed in it. References and external links provide context rather than implying affiliation.

Scope of the journal

These articles are for historical and educational reading. They are not machine operating instructions, conservation treatment plans, medical advice, valuations, or legal advice. Use appropriate manuals and qualified specialists for practical decisions involving machinery, materials, or collection care.
